Using clip masks to change object transparency
A clip mask is a mask that is attached to an object. A clip mask lets you change the transparency of an object without permanently affecting it.
Once you create a clip mask, any changes apply only to the clip mask, not to the object itself. You can edit the clip mask in the same way you edit the transparency of an object. The transparency becomes permanent only when you combine the mask and the object.
Clip mask transparency can be temporarily disabled or permanently removed.
You can also use clip masks on editable areas. For more information about editable areas, see “Working with masks.”
